BEAR DEN - 02/16/2014

My first blog post ever!  "Bear" with me, no pun intended, while we figure this out.  Travis and I are excited about teaching your boys this year.  We hope they will enjoy the activities we have planned for them.

If your boys have attended each Tuesday night, to date we have done the following:

1.  The first night we met with the boys we ate pretzels, apples, and oranges and discussed rules and the importance of showing up for each den meeting and pack meeting.  It was a lot of fun to get to know who the boys were.

2.Pinewood Derby

3. Achievement #19 "Savings and Chips" - We talked about knife safety.  We talked about how to take care of a knife and we even whittled on a bar of soap.  The entire achievement was passed off and each boy who attended earned their Whittling Chip card which will allow them to use their pocket knives safely during cub scout activities.

4. Achievement #18 "Jot it Down" - We talked about the Cub Scout Character Connection for Honesty.  We also created a Thank You card and turned it into an invitation for this month's Pack Meeting.  The boys then had a choice to make on 2 other items to do in order to earn the full achievement.  Most boys completed this Achievement.

Travis and I will focus on the achievements needed for the Bear badge.  There are several achievements that need to be performed with the Cub Scout and their family of which we expect to see the parents sign off.  It should be known to the parents of Bear Scouts that you are able to sign off on the achievements and electives.  So many of the requirements can be done at home and are not difficult at all.  School is also a great place for the boys to earn achievements, just speak to them about their day and see if there are items to sign off.

Please make sure your boys dress in their uniform each Tuesday night and please make sure they bring their Bear book.  It would really help if you sent them with a note listing the achievements or electives you worked on with them.  This would save us some time by not having to look through the entire book to update our tracking sheet.

There is a tracking sheet kept on each of your boys.  I will try to send a copy each month so you know where they stand with their Bear badge, red beads, and arrows.

Question or concerns?  Please contact Travis Mecham or Adam Mauchley.
